The scheme operates as a grant scheme and the funding we allocate does not need to be paid back. Which means the measures fitted to your home, e.g. new central heating system , solar panels, insulation etc is all completely free to you.

OFGEM administers the scheme and Department for Energy Security & Net Zero.

The scheme has been running since 2013 and its now in its fourth phase. EC04 began in 2022 and ends on 31st March 2026.

The scheme has £1billion in funding and this is raised through the Energy Suppliers, to comply with the Governments Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO). The HHCRO requires that the energy suppliers have to help households heat their homes specifically households that are vulnerable, fuel poor and low income.

The scheme is available nationwide.

There were predecessors to the ECO4 scheme, called the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) and Community Energy Savings Programme (CESP).
